The 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser: A Revered Off-Road Icon Returns to its Roots

As a legendary symbol of off-road capability and durability, the Toyota Land Cruiser is all set to make its long-awaited comeback to the Canadian market for the 2024 model year. The news is surely bound to excite enthusiasts who appreciate this globally admired automotive marque. Toyota's longest-running nameplate, absent from Canada for nearly three decades, has been rejuvenated while faithfully retaining its rugged origins.

The 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser comes exclusively with an i-FORCE MAX turbocharged 2.4-litre four-cylinder hybrid powertrain under the hood. This beast delivers an impressive 326 horsepower and 465 lb.-ft. of torque. The newcomer is built on the TNGA-F global truck platform, designed and engineered to endure the most severe environments. Moreover, it is slightly more compact than its predecessor, the 200 Series model, enhancing its agility on trails.

In its re-entry to the Canadian market, the new Land Cruiser reveals a nod to its robust past while integrating the latest technologies for modern off-roaders. The First Edition grade, a limited series of 5,000 units for North America, adds further appeal. It is decked out with round heritage LED headlamps, a roof rack, rock rails, and an exclusive interior design. This edition also includes two new two-tone paint options and other off-road equipment.

The SUV's new design sees the return of iconic elements such as the round LED headlights and "TOYOTA" heritage grille. The body profile is reminiscent of older Land Cruiser models, a conscious effort by the CALTY Design Research team. The A-pillar has been pushed back for better outward visibility on trails, while the front overhang has been reduced to improve the approach angle.

Toyota Safety Sense 3.0, the latest version of Toyota's suite of advanced safety technologies, comes standard on all models. Other features include a newly developed double-wishbone front suspension and multi-link rear suspension, electric power steering, and 17-inch disc brakes. An electronic locking rear differential, standard on all models, contributes to improved traction control on rough terrains.

Additionally, the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser has a host of connectivity features. The new Toyota Multimedia system is displayed on an 8.0-inch touchscreen for Land Cruiser 1958 models and a 12.3-inch touchscreen for other versions, both of which support wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. Additional functionality includes Over-the-Air (OTA) updates and enhanced convenience features.

The return of the Land Cruiser not only expands Toyota's vehicle lineup but also reinforces the brand's commitment to producing vehicles that are dependable, durable, and capable of conquering the most demanding conditions. Production will be based in Toyota Motor Corporation's Tahara and Hino plants in Japan, with the Land Cruiser set to arrive in Canada in the spring of 2024. Pricing details will be announced closer to the vehicle's on-sale date.
